Why I Am A Single Issue Voter
There are countless things that matter to me in a candidate. I’d prefer to find one that agrees with me on everything, but until that happens I’ll be forced to make concessions here and there. So I’ve had to decide what’s most important to me, and I have.
In America, approximately 20% of pregnancies end in abortion. For every four babies that you see, there was another murdered.
That’s around 1,000,000 abortions every year, depending on whose statistics you use.
That’s around 2,700 abortions every day of the year.
Over 100 babies are murdered every hour of every day of the year.
Every 90 seconds a baby is murdered. And that clock runs, non-stop, every minute of every hour of every year without stopping.
In the time it takes you to read this, 2 babies will be murdered in America.
And that thought nauseates me.
I don’t want to hear about cases of sexual assault or where the mother’s health is at risk.
We don’t even kill the bad guys convicted of sexual assault. Someone, anyone, explain to me why it’s OK for a rapist to “serve his time” and then walk the streets again as a free man, but the child of that horrible act should be killed. When we start taking rapists into a clinic and ripping them apart limb from limb for what they’ve done, when that’s a common practice, THEN bring up cases of sexual assault.
I know about pregnancy complications. My wife had complications when she was pregnant with ReadsTheBooks. Every morning when I left for work I’d give her a kiss and have no idea if she’d be alive when I got home. Even if I were home, the condition was such that if there were problems she would never make it to the hospital. Months were spent with that thought in the back of our minds. And we never, ever, not once, considered abortion.
Tell me fathers and mothers….. If forced to choose, right now, which of your children would be murdered to save your life–Which one would you choose? Can you even bear to think about it? Because I can’t. So if you’re not going to murder your children to save your life when they’re out of the womb, why is it OK to kill them before they’re born?
So I’ve become a single issue voter. Not because I’m ignorant of other issues, or too lazy to educate myself, but because I find nothing-nothing-more repulsive than the thought of murdering 100 unborn children every day.
For those who are readying their arguments for their favorite of the Bill of Rights, let me say this…. The notion of living in a land without the freedom of religion or the press or the right to peacefully assemble, a land without due process, frightens me beyond measure. I realize that without the freedom of speech I wouldn’t be able to write this. I know that without the 2nd Amendment we can’t protect ourselves from those that would murder both the born and unborn.
I realize all of that, I just don’t care.
I don’t care because I haven’t been able to come up with a number. A number of just how many babies I’d be willing to have murdered to secure those rights for me.
Let that sink in for a moment. When presented with the option of a candidate who is staunchly against abortion but weak on every other issue that our society faces, and a candidate that cares little about abortion but is pro-capitalism, pro-welfare reform, pro-gun, pro-whatever your favorite issue is….. When presented with those two candidates you have to make a choice. Decide how many babies you’re willing to let be ripped limb from limb in their mother’s womb to secure each of those rights. Assign a value, in the currency of unborn children, to your “rights”. Negotiate less gun control for more dead babies. Gain the right to not bake cupcakes for gay weddings and let a few more be murdered. Demand welfare reform and the end of Obamacare and let those numbers stand right where they are. Negotiate all of those things in the currency of dead babies. You have 100 babies per day to negotiate with.
The fortunate truth is that we’re not faced with an all-or-nothing proposition. We’re not being forced to give away all of our other rights to elect a candidate who seeks to end the plague of abortion. But we sure act like it. “Murdering Babies” is just another box that we check off on a long list of things we’re upset about. What a shame.
The issue that is the most uncomfortable to talk about is the only issue we should be talking about. Everything, everything, should be secondary to the murder of 1,000,000 innocent children.
