The things we surround ourselves with.
I suppose that I take great pride in the things that I surround myself with. I enjoy the tug of a fish on a line, the smell of fall in the air, the comfort of my favorite chair, the sound of my favorite rickety fan when I nap.
But the more I surround myself with people, and that’s not always a comfortable thing for me to do, I see the value in surrounding myself with good people.
It’s more difficult to surround yourself with good people because good people, unlike good things, have the option of just walking away from you when you act like a jerk.
So I’ve come to believe that the value of the people around you is a much better gauge of your worth than the value of the things around you.
